Case Study -1 : Enterprise DC
Enterprise DC (Brownfield DC) - Facility summary
- Total DC Area- 2900 sq. ft.
- Designed rack capacity : 6kW
- Number of racks : 46
- Supply grills used – 46 No’s
- Return air grills used- 41 numbers
- 20TR-3 No’s of PAHU (All are operational without standby)-210kW cooling capacity
- Ceiling return air path used for recycling of air

Data Center Challenges:
- No physical cooling redundancy available.
- Downtime issue when PAHU unit under maintenance or faulty
- No uniform rack intake temperature
- Cold air mixing at rack level, air leakages
- No uniform return air temperature back to PAHU
- Not able to plan the capacity of individual racks
- No alert mechanism when power / temperature reaches the maximum threshold capacity
Enterprise –IT/ITES data center manager decided to use Data center infrastructure optimization services, which includes
1. Monitoring the rack level IT load details & rack intake temperature for week
2. PAC supply & return monitoring data for week
3. 6sigma CFD simulations Before & After recommendations

Identifying the Findings:

Results: Before and after recommendation

Findings:
- No Cooling Redundancy
- Cold air is moving entire area of raised floor Air mixing
- Cold air recirculation back to PAC
- Larger under floor area reducing air pressure.

Results:
- Power saving upto 16kW per hour
- Annually Savings – Rs/- 12 Lakhs from cooling
- 1 PAC unit can use as standbys – Redundancy
- Optimized raised floor air flow
- No air mixing and cold air circulation
- 2 PAC can control the temperature in the DC
